If you had bought Ramaco Resources on 6 November 2025, attracted by analyst debates over rare earth expansion versus coal exposure and contrasting fair value views, the outcome would have been brutal. Holding Ramaco Resources over the past year would have meant a 74.7% loss, including dividends. With that result now on the table, which part of the original case about Brook Mine ramp-up, rare earth pricing and margin recovery was most vulnerable yet easiest to question at the start?

The shares cost US$23.79 at the start of the period, and anyone looking at Ramaco Resources then had to decide which storyline felt more realistic.
The bullish view saw Brook Mine as a future rare earth producer and treated a Fair Value of US$27.67, a price implied by its own assumptions, as reasonable. This view was built on 11.9% annual revenue growth and profit margins rising to 15.3%.
The bearish camp anchored on a Fair Value of US$14, tied to slower 9.1% growth and concern that rare earth pricing and demand forecasts might simply prove too optimistic.
Quarterly filings showed Ramaco Resources producing revenue of US$150.089 million and a net loss of US$18.272 million in Q3 2026, which challenged the bullish profitability path. Net margin remained negative and moved from an 11.0% loss in Q3 2025 to a 12.2% loss in Q3 2026, so the high-margin recovery story was not yet visible. The period cut both ways.
The lesson is simple. When a rare earth or transition story is central, treat profit margin targets and project timelines as separate bets and track both in filings and project updates before assuming the thesis is on track.
Ramaco Resources now trades at US$6.24, with the selected Narrative treating its Fair Value as higher than that level. The argument leans on Brook Mine turning early critical minerals work into a much larger, more diversified earnings base than coal alone.
For that view to land, a buyer today would need Brook Mine’s carbochlorination process to scale into a commercially viable semiconductor focused supply chain.
"Ramaco Resources is moving Brook Mine forward using a carbochlorination flowsheet where initial test work has produced average extractions above 90% for targeted critical minerals and a new conceptual study points to a multi billion dollar internal value range, which together support the case for a future earnings stream that is materially different from and potentially larger than the current metallurgical coal contribution."
