When DIP reported that Q2 2027 revenue and profit were both lower than the prior year and net margin had swung from 10.9% to a 10.2% loss, it put hard numbers around concerns that had previously been theoretical. Holding DIP from the start of the year would have meant a 27.2% loss, including dividends. If you were weighing that decision back on 1 January 2026, how should this risk of weaker profitability have shaped your expectations?
If the move has made DIP harder to judge, start where the gap is still open and scan 26 high quality undervalued stocks.
The shares cost ¥2,197 at the start of the period, and anyone looking at DIP then was really choosing between two very different stories about its future.
The bullish Narrative pointed to a Fair Value of ¥2,900, the price implied if rapid Spot Baitoru user growth and early AI adoption translated into stronger margins and new digital consulting and subscription lines. That view leaned on assumptions such as revenue rising 7.4% a year and profit margins reaching 19.0%.
The bearish Narrative instead anchored on a Fair Value of ¥1,800, reflecting worries that automation, protectionism and rising wage and compliance costs could cap progress. Under that scenario, revenue growth was only 3.3% a year and profit margins slipped to 14.5%, with higher regulatory and client concentration risks front of mind.
The clearest development was DIP’s swing from a ¥1,420.435m profit in Q2 2026 to a ¥1,201.646m loss in Q2 2027, with net margin moving from 10.9% to a 10.2% loss. That shift challenged the bullish case that near term profitability would strengthen, and more clearly supported the cautious narrative focused on cost pressure and execution risk.
The lesson is simple. When a thesis leans heavily on margin expansion, treat net margin as the key checkpoint and compare each new result against that original profitability path.
DIP now trades at ¥1,516 from the start of the year, after a total return that declined 27.2%. The selected Narrative’s Fair Value sits above the current price, framing today’s level as cautious relative to that view rather than expensive.
The bullish Narrative centres on DIP turning its Baitoru ecosystem, dip AI and solutions based salesforce into higher value per customer. For that higher Fair Value to be realised, a buyer today would be assuming that AI enabled services and the enlarged sales team translate into durable revenue growth.
"The main thing that has to go right is that DIP converts its shift to solutions based, AI enabled sales into durable revenue growth and higher value per client by executing on its expanded sales force, dip AI, Baitoru Talk and KOBOT, while the structural labor shortage supports demand for its services."
