Listen to the news

Key Points

  • CarGurus third-quarter revenue rose 12% year over year to $258 million.

  • Paying U.S. dealers using non-listings products grew 16% year over year.

  • The board authorized a new $250 million share repurchase program.

On its third quarter of 2026 earnings call, held on Nov. 5, 2026, CarGurus (NASDAQ:CARG) announced third-quarter revenue grew 12% year over year to $258 million. The online automotive marketplace expanded beyond core listings as dealers adopted software tools to manage inventory and pricing. High-margin product adoption supports long-term revenue stability even when dealer spending faces macroeconomic pressure. Three things management said stand out.

1. Dealer Adoption of Non-Listings Products Is Expanding Wallet Share

CarGurus is moving beyond basic marketplace listings by expanding into inventory management, pricing, and lead conversion tools. Dealers using multiple products generate higher retention and stronger profit opportunities for the platform.

US paying dealers that subscribe to at least one product outside our core listings tiers grew approximately 16% year over year.

2. Predictive Artificial Intelligence Products Keep Vehicle Prices Firm

Management launched tools such as VINMAX, an artificial intelligence (AI) marketing feature that targets underperforming vehicle inventory. This capability helps dealerships sell cars faster without resorting to steep price cuts.

Those boosted listings are 85% more likely to sell without any price reduction compared to similar non boosted vehicles. Helping dealers hold prices as they navigate current market conditions.

3. Disciplined Operations Enable Capital Return to Stockholders

Strong cash flow generation allowed CarGurus to maintain a non-GAAP gross margin (adjusted profit margin excluding non-recurring items) of 92%. Management is using this free cash flow engine to fund software development and repurchase shares.

Additionally, I am pleased to share that our board has authorized a new $250 million share repurchase program which will be effective November 4, 2026 through December 31, 2027.

Looking Ahead

Dealer profit pressures linger, yet momentum across software products and AI consumer tools gives management reason to celebrate third-quarter performance. CarGurus maintains a strong cash position and continues to capture wallet share through proprietary market data and embedded dealer workflows. Management is tracking pricing discipline, lead quality, and product attachment rates across its dealer network.

Looking ahead, while macro factors continue to pressure dealer spend, we are excited by what the third quarter showed across all 3 value creation drivers.
-- Jason Trevisan, Chief Executive Officer

By connecting consumer search traffic directly into dealership operations, CarGurus deepens platform liquidity while broadening its total addressable market (TAM, the total revenue opportunity available in the market). The combination of user scale and exclusive demand signals creates a durable moat against competitors.

We believe the result is a stickier business and better liquidity and transparency between consumers and dealers.
