06:59 AM EST, 11/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission preliminarily found that ByteDance-owned TikTok breached the European Union's Digital Services Act due to the "rabbit hole" effect created by its "For You" feed. The regulator said Friday that the algorithm design may be harmful when it causes repeated exposure to "triggering" content about sadness, isolation, or body image. Its preliminary conclusion is that TikTok "failed to implement proportionate, reasonable and effective mitigation measures to address these risks." TikTok can exercise its right to defense and may submit a written response to the preliminary findings. Meanwhile, a consultation process with the European Board for Digital Services will be initiated.
