Expro Ltd Just Reported A Surprise Loss: Here's What Analysts Think Will Happen Next

Listen to the news

One of the biggest stories of last week was how Expro Ltd (NYSE:XPRO) shares plunged 26% in the week since its latest third-quarter results, closing yesterday at US$12.84. Revenues came in at US$440m, in line with estimates, while Expro reported a statutory loss of US$0.05 per share, well short of prior analyst forecasts for a profit. Earnings are an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance, look at what the analysts are forecasting for next year, and see if there's been a change in sentiment towards the company. With this in mind, we've gathered the latest statutory forecasts to see what the analysts are expecting for next year.

Following the latest results, Expro's four analysts are now forecasting revenues of US$1.78b in 2027. This would be a decent 12% improvement in revenue compared to the last 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to surge 5,543% to US$0.79. Yet prior to the latest earnings, the analysts had been anticipated revenues of US$1.75b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$0.79 in 2027. The consensus analysts don't seem to have seen anything in these results that would have changed their view on the business, given there's been no major change to their estimates.

The analysts reconfirmed their price target of US$17.25, showing that the business is executing well and in line with expectations. That's not the only conclusion we can draw from this data however, as some investors also like to consider the spread in estimates when evaluating analyst price targets. The most optimistic Expro analyst has a price target of US$19.00 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at US$15.00. Even so, with a relatively close grouping of estimates, it looks like the analysts are quite confident in their valuations, suggesting Expro is an easy business to forecast or the the analysts are all using similar assumptions.

Another way we can view these estimates is in the context of the bigger picture, such as how the forecasts stack up against past performance, and whether forecasts are more or less bullish relative to other companies in the industry. The period to the end of 2027 brings more of the same, according to the analysts, with revenue forecast to display 9.6% growth on an annualised basis. That is in line with its 12% annual growth over the past five years. Compare this with the broader industry, which analyst estimates (in aggregate) suggest will see revenues grow 7.2% annually. So although Expro is expected to maintain its revenue growth rate, it's definitely expected to grow faster than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away is that there's been no major change in sentiment, with the analysts reconfirming that the business is performing in line with their previous earnings per share estimates. Happily, there were no major changes to revenue forecasts, with the business still expected to grow faster than the wider industry. There was no real change to the consensus price target, suggesting that the intrinsic value of the business has not undergone any major changes with the latest estimates.

Following on from that line of thought, we think that the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings. We have forecasts for Expro going out to 2028, and you can see them free on our platform here.
