If you only glanced at the headlines on Inter & Co in 2026, the story looked upbeat, with record quarters, rising client numbers and fresh AI tools. For Inter & Co shareholders, the loss over the past year was 59.5%, including dividends. That is a brutal outcome for a business reporting stronger revenue, higher net income and a better efficiency ratio. If you were considering Inter on 5 November 2025, what signals were strong enough to justify that risk?
A Narrative on Simply Wall St is one investor's written case for a company, with its growth, margin and multiple assumptions spelled out. Those assumptions imply an estimated Fair Value.
The easy part of this move is behind Inter & Co. Zero in on 42 high quality undervalued stocks for companies trading below our estimates.
The shares cost US$9.61 at the start of the period, and anyone looking at Inter & Co then had to choose between two very different stories.
The bullish Narrative, Inter&Co 60/30/30 Plan, put Fair Value at US$33.3. It leaned on management's 2027 ambition for 60 million customers and assumed 15.0% revenue growth with a 28.0% profit margin and a future P/E of 15.0x over three years.
The bearish case, Regulatory Tightening And Competition Will Undermine Prospects Despite Network Effects, suggested a Fair Value of US$4.17. It focused on rising regulatory costs, tighter data and anti-money laundering rules, and the risk that heavier compliance spending would compress margins and weaken the branchless model advantage.
Inter & Co reported Q2 2026 revenue of R$1,775.484m and net income of R$421.109m, with net margin at 23.7% compared with 22.0% a year earlier. That shift in profitability, together with record Q1 and Q2 2026 updates, lent weight to the optimistic 60/30/30 case, although rising credit costs and regulatory spend kept the cautious thesis alive. Overall, the evidence cut both ways.
The central assumption was profitability scaling with client and product growth. For any other bank like this, track net margin and return on equity against the story management is telling about efficiency targets and customer growth goals.
Inter & Co now trades at US$3.78. The selected Narrative argues that its Fair Value sits above this level, based on how its digital ecosystem, secured lending focus and funding base work together rather than on a single growth metric.
The key question for anyone stepping in after a 59.5% decline over the past year is whether Inter & Co can grow secured and higher yielding credit while keeping cost of risk, funding cost and expenses contained so that return on equity and efficiency targets still hold.
"The Single Smart Super App and AI platform, which now handle over 180 products for a large and active client base while keeping cost to serve per client flat, allow Inter & Co to widen cross sell and increase per customer usage, which can lift revenue and support margin resilience."
