According to Zhitong Finance App News, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (00388) announced quarterly results for the nine months ended September 30, 2026. Revenue and other earnings for the third quarter of 2026 were $7.867 billion, up 1% from 2025. Although the overall average daily turnover fell 11%, the main business revenue remained flat due to reduced trading and settlement fees in the spot market and Hong Kong Stock Connect, as well as increased rebates paid to settlement participants. However, the volume of the commodity market and Shanghai Stock Connect and Shenzhen Stock Connect increased trading and settlement fees. Along with the increase in listing fees, most of the decline has been offset. The net investment income of the company's capital was $353 million (third quarter of 2025: $254 million), due to increased return on investment in the third quarter of 2026 and exchange losses due to the decline in the exchange rate of the US dollar against the Hong Kong dollar in the third quarter of 2025.

The EBITDA margin was 79%, down 2 percentage points from the third quarter of 2025. Profit attributable to shareholders was $4.859 billion, down 1% from the third quarter of 2025.

Revenue and other earnings and profit for the first three quarters of 2026 hit a record nine-month high. Revenue and other earnings for the first three quarters of 2026 were $24.569 billion, up 12% from the first three quarters of 2025: main business revenue increased 12% from the first three quarters of 2025, reflecting record high volumes in the spot market, derivatives market and commodity market, increasing transaction and settlement fees. However, increased rebates payable to settlement participants reduced the net investment income of margin funds, which offset part of the increase. The net investment income from the company's capital was 1,436 billion yuan (first three quarters of 2025:1,298 billion yuan), mainly due to the non-recurring income of 307 million yuan in the valuation of the Group's unlisted share capital investments, but the reduction in the size of externally managed investment funds reduced the return on investment, which partially offset the increase.

The EBITDA margin was 80%, up 1 percentage point from the first three quarters of 2025. Profit attributable to shareholders was $15.427 billion, up 15% from the first three quarters of 2025.

Group CEO Chen Yiting said, “In the first three quarters of this year, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange's business developed steadily, market trading was strong, and the Group's revenue and other revenue and profit reached new highs during the same period. The spot market, derivatives market and commodity market are active, and the results of our deep cultivation of the multi-asset ecosystem are beginning to show.

As investors from around the world adjust their capital allocation strategies, the Hong Kong market has ushered in a critical opportunity. HKEx is determined to forge ahead and actively seize this opportunity. Through the reform of the listing system, the optimization of market infrastructure and the launch of new products, we are actively promoting various strategic initiatives to enhance market liquidity, expand market participation, and strengthen connectivity between different asset classes. In the third quarter of 2026, we made a number of important developments, including reviewing the competitiveness of the listing mechanism, introducing the first Chinese treasury bond futures listed on an offshore exchange, simplifying each trading unit in the Hong Kong stock market, and welcoming the first batch of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track HKEx's new cross-market index.

Faced with increased uncertainty in the macro environment and continued market fluctuations, we have strengthened our belief in striving to build a deeper and richer multi-asset ecosystem. The latest results reflect continued market growth, fully demonstrating the resilience of HKEx's business and further strengthening our confidence in the long-term development and competitiveness of the Hong Kong market.”
