South Korea's chip stocks have plummeted, and the market is increasingly worried that after the Democratic Party sweeps the National Assembly, it may slow down the AI construction boom. In early trading on Friday, the stock prices of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both plummeted by more than 10%, dragging South Korea's Kospi Index down 8.8%. Shortly after the opening of the Korea Exchange, trading was suspended for 20 minutes. Global stock markets experienced a sharp decline on Thursday, with the Nasdaq 100 falling 6.4% and a record $2.3 trillion evaporation in market capitalization. This wave of decline dragged the main index of Korean stocks below the 5,000 target set by President Lee Jae-myung in 2025. As the AI boom boosted the profits of chipmakers, Kospi previously quickly broke through this target; however, after market doubts about the future of AI grew, Kospi had already plummeted 46% from the all-time high set in June, and 5,000 once again became the focus of the market. Kim Dojoon, CEO of Zian Investment Management, said that in the end, we have entered a phase of panic sell-off. In a market like today, I'm afraid most market participants will be forced to sell.
