What Investors Got Wrong Before Presco's Rally

Simply Wall St·11/05/2026 21:29:17
Listen to the news

Presco’s latest report shows higher revenue and a wider net margin in Q3 2026 compared with Q3 2025, yet the more surprising story sits in the shareholder outcome over the year. For Presco shareholders, the return from the start of the year was 28.5%, including dividends. If you had been weighing those impressive profitability ratios against sector and financing risks back in January, what exactly did the evidence on record justify at the time?

The easy part of this move is behind Presco. Zero in on 203 high quality undervalued stocks for companies trading below our estimates.

The Two Presco Stories Investors Had To Weigh

The shares cost NGN1,450 at the start of the period, and anyone buying Presco then was really choosing between two very different but credible pictures of the future.

The bullish narrative presented Presco as a high quality compounder, with a Fair Value of NGN1,564 that reflected the assumptions used, supported by 42.4% revenue growth assumptions and a 40.0% profit margin.

The more cautious view instead anchored on a Fair Value of NGN1,261, with investors focused on a more modest 13.0% revenue growth assumption and the risk that higher finance costs could have a greater impact if expansion borrowing stayed heavy.

What The Results Changed For Presco

The clearest new fact was Presco’s higher net margin in Q3 2026. Revenue moved from NGN75,764.343m to NGN77,794.19m and net income rose from NGN21,935.553m to NGN28,902.384m, lifting net margin from 29.0% to 37.2%. That change in profitability supported the focus on quality and efficiency, although it did not fully resolve long term growth assumptions.

The lesson is simple. When an investment thesis leans on rich margins, treat net income and net margin as the key test and track how each quarterly result compares with the expectations that originally supported the thesis.

What Presco’s Current Price Already Implies

Presco now trades at NGN1,841, which reflects a solid year to date gain from NGN1,450 at the start of the year. The selected Narrative still places its Fair Value above the current price, based on a stronger business case rather than a simple chart move.

That view leans heavily on high returns on capital, strong cash generation and pricing power in a concentrated oil palm niche. Anyone paying today’s price has to judge whether Presco can keep converting that pricing power into consistently high free cash flow over time.

"PRESCO operates in Oil Palm sector which has high entry cost and long gestation period. PRESCO has high margins (Gross & Net) and pricing power with specialized products including RBDO."
