US President Trump's wife Melania said at the White House on the 5th that Russia and Ukraine safely evacuated nearly 800 local residents during the Oreshki cease-fire, and expressed the hope that the cease-fire would promote cooperation to achieve lasting peace. Melania said during a meeting with Russian and Ukrainian officials at the White House on the 5th that Oreshki's efforts to achieve a cease-fire were inseparable from the efforts of the Russian and Ukrainian presidents. “Their cooperation has set a far-reaching precedent for promoting peace throughout the region,” and hopes to create a more lasting peace than a temporary cease-fire. Russian President's Special Representative Kirill Dmitriev, Ukraine's ruling People's Public Servants' Party parliamentary caucus chairman David Alahamia, and Ukraine's Supreme Rada Human Rights Commissioner Dmitro Rubinets attended the event. Oreshki is located on the east bank of the Dnieper River, across the river from the Ukrainian military controlled city of Kherson. Russia took control of the city on February 24, 2022, when it launched a special military operation against Ukraine. On October 23 this year, the US White House issued a statement saying that Melania helped Russia and Ukraine agree to a local cease-fire in Oleshki. Russia and Ukraine began a local cease-fire in Oreshki on October 27 to allow humanitarian supplies to enter and arrange for the evacuation of civilians through designated safe channels. On November 1, Russia announced the end of the cease-fire in the Oreshki humanitarian operation zone.
