ECB Governing Council member Ante Zigman said that the ECB may raise interest rates next month, which will be the third time since the outbreak of the war in Iran has raised borrowing costs. Zigman said on Thursday in Opatija, Croatia, “Inflation continued to rise in October. We can say that the possibility of interest rate hikes in December is quite high.” As consumer prices are currently rising at twice the rate of the ECB's 2% target, the Croatian official joined other policymakers to send a signal that the ECB may raise deposit interest rates by another 25 basis points at its final policy meeting in 2026.
