COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) — COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) — Cummins Inc. (CMI) on Thursday reported third-quarter earnings of $1.14 billion.

On a per-share basis, the Columbus, Indiana-based company said it had net income of $8.25. Earnings, adjusted for pretax gains, came to $7.71 per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $8.38 per share.

The engine maker posted revenue of $9.44 billion in the period, which also missed Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $9.89 billion.
