Uber Technologies just reported Q3 2026 results and the stock did not flinch. Shares jumped 4.9% to US$69.87 the first trading day after the release, even as headline earnings per share dropped sharply from the prior quarter and net income landed at US$512 million.
Investors came in with a growth story in mind. The print instead spotlighted a valuation puzzle, with the ride hailing giant trading on a 41.2x trailing P/E while still sitting far below one widely cited discounted cash flow estimate, which pegs fair value at US$160.04.

The bullish script around Uber Technologies leans heavily on execution, not just growth for its own sake.
"The main thing that has to go right is that Uber successfully executes its capital plan in autonomous vehicles and the Delivery Hero integration while keeping margins supported by AI-led efficiency gains and disciplined cost control."
On this score, Uber hits several checkpoints. Q3 brought 35% non GAAP EPS growth and record trailing 12 month free cash flow of US$10.4b, which points to real cost discipline alongside revenue expansion. Grocery and retail gross bookings near US$15b and growing about 40% back the Delivery story. Management also reaffirmed a US$10b AV commitment and is shifting from tests to paid driverless rides with approximately 700 vehicles targeted on platform by year end, which shows the capital plan moving from PowerPoint to operations.

Bearish investors worry Uber Technologies will find its algorithms boxed in by regulators and organized drivers. The concern is clear.
"Bearish analysts expect Uber Technologies to see data driven monetization come under pressure as regulators and organized drivers push back on dynamic pricing, loyalty programs and pay algorithms."
Q3 does not show that squeeze in the headline figures. Revenue grew 9.6% and non GAAP EPS rose 35%. Yet the FTC inquiry, a large GDPR fine in Europe and fresh driver lawsuits all arrived before or just after this quarter. Those legal and policy moves are real milestones, even if the financial impact is not visible in these results yet.
