With interest rates on the rise and high energy prices here to stay for a while yet, it looks like it will continue to be a tough period for Australian companies.
Broker Morgans recently published an outlook wrapping up the prospects of companies about to report results, and notes there's a growing disconnect between the winners and losers, as companies exposed to data centre spending and public infrastructure continue to do well while others lag.
They also note that "Australian companies are traversing a tougher phase as sticky inflation constrains economic growth''.
In this context, it's useful to look at what the consensus estimates are from the brokers, with plenty of companies still tipped as a strong buy.
I've screened out a handful of companies which, according to CommSec data, are overwhelmingly rated a strong buy by brokers.
One of those, with a fairly compelling 15 strong buy broker recommendations in its favour against two holds and one strong sell, is Hub24 Ltd (ASX: HUB).
Hub24 has been a favourite of brokers for some time; however, its shares drifted lower from August until mid-October, when a trading update piqued investor interest again.
The company's wealth management platforms are seen as an attractive growth driver, with superannuation funds continuing to grow and people seeking more advice following capital gains tax changes announced earlier this year.
As a shareholder myself, I'm positive about the investment thesis, although after a weak few months on the share price front, it will take some patience to return to the black.
Netwealth Group Ltd (ASX: NWL) also has a strong buy recommendation with much the same investment thesis as Hub24, with 13 brokers rating it a strong buy against one moderate and three holds.
Collins Foods Ltd (ASX: CKF) has five strong buy recommendations, two moderate buys, and one hold.
The stock has drifted slightly lower over the past 12 months, but the company's trading results are strong, with 2.7% same-store sales growth in FY26 and 7.6% growth overall.
These sales rates picked up early in this financial year, and with further growth plans in place for Australia, it could be an interesting year for the company.
In the mining sector, Paladin Energy Ltd (ASX: PDN) has 13 strong buy recommendations, two moderate buys, and one hold.
In a tightening uranium market, Paladin provides exposure not just to existing production from its Langer Heinrich mine but also to a growth project at its Patterson Lake South development.
With energy prices top of mind around the world, having some exposure to uranium seems a solid investing strategy.
And finally, SiteMinder Ltd (ASX: SDR) is also strongly supported with 12 strong buy recommendations, two moderate buys, a hold, and a sell.
The hotel technology company is expecting annual recurring revenue to grow in the mid-20s, in percentage points, from FY26 through to the end of FY30, with UBS predicting on 29 October that its share price could double from current levels.
