mai News 90/2026 November 4, 2026 mai to introduce sector classification for all listed companies, enhancing investor benchmarking, effective March 1, 2027 KEY POINTS - mai will introduce sector classification for all listed companies, adopting the same 8 industry groups and 30 sectors structure as SET, effective March 1, 2027 - Investors will be able to screen, compare, and value mai stocks alongside SET-listed companies within the same sectors more systematically - The new structure increases visibility for mai stocks and supports the development of future investment products BANGKOK, November 4, 2026 - The Market for Alternative Investment (mai) is set to implement sector classification for all its listed companies, adopting the same structure as the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) which is being newly revised, comprising 8 industry groups and 30 sectors, effective simultaneously with SET on March 1, 2027. mai President Prapan Charoenprawatt stated that over the past decade, the number of listed companies on mai has nearly doubled, from 122 to 229. As the business landscape has shifted significantly, classification at the industry group level alone is no longer sufficient to accommodate increasingly diverse business models, creating a gap in business analysis against peer groups. This sector classification therefore marks a significant milestone in elevating mai stock data standards, enabling investors and analysts to conduct peer-group comparisons with companies in the same sector on SET and apply more precise and comprehensive valuation metrics, such as P/E and P/BV. Furthermore, this will enhance visibility and investor access to information on mai-listed companies, leading to appropriate analysis and valuation. "This initiative follows the 'Single Standard' principle, using the same evaluation criteria, naming conventions, and sector abbreviations as SET. Analysts will be able to perform comprehensive sector-based analysis covering all market caps across both SET and mai. This structure also supports the development of new investment products, such as thematic funds or sector ETFs, which may directly reference mai stocks. The change was developed following consultations with relevant stakeholders in the capital market," added Prapan. 8 Industry Groups and 30 Sectors: The New Structure 1.
