Recently, the National Administration for Disease Control and Prevention, together with various departments, officially issued a notice confirming that Sichuan Province has achieved the elimination of schistosomiasis. Sichuan Province used to be one of the most endemic provinces of schistosomiasis in China. The outbreak affected 63 counties in 11 cities including Chengdu, Meishan, Deyang, Mianyang, Leshan, Ya'an, Liangshan, Ziyang, Panzhihua, Yibin, and Neijiang, with a threatened population of more than 13 million; cases of schistosomiasis were first reported in 1924, snails were discovered in 1939, and confirmed cases of cultivating cattle in 1943. The total number of patients in history reached 1.275,700, more than 30,000 advanced patients, and 200,000 historically ill cattle.
