Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, was invited to speak on the phone with Philippine Foreign Minister Lazaro on the 3rd. Wang Yi said that Sino-Philippine relations are facing malicious interference. A small number of Philippine politicians are attacking and discrediting China and trampling on China's red line. The Philippines should restrain relevant personnel, make a rational and unified voice on China policy, implement the one-China policy, and be careful about the maritime issues. Lazaro said that the Philippine side will not change its one-China policy position and is willing to properly handle sea-related issues through dialogue and consultation. The two sides reached a basic consensus on improving and developing Sino-Philippine relations: maintain diplomatic dialogue, eliminate internal and external interference, oppose malicious provocation, responsibly manage differences, stabilize the situation, and expand common interests. The two sides also exchanged views on the upcoming East Asian Cooperation Leaders' Meeting to be held in the Philippines and the APEC Informal Leaders' Meeting to be held in Shenzhen later.
