HSBC announced during Hong Kong Fintech Week that it will establish a global “Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technology Research Institute” in the northern metropolitan area of Hong Kong. The research institute is scheduled to be put into operation in early 2027. It will initially focus on talent skill improvement, artificial intelligence security and fraud detection, post-quantum cryptography and blockchain, and promote promising innovative solutions from R&D to practice, which are widely used in various business areas. In addition, HSBC has selected the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as the Institute's main academic partner to provide academic expertise and special research to help HSBC connect with talents in different fields and top academic institutions.
