On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 29, 2026, Republic Services (NYSE:RSG) updated full-year 2026 financial guidance, setting revenue expectations to a range of $17.425 billion to $17.475 billion. Essential waste collection and hazardous disposal services generate predictable cash flow even during choppy macroeconomic conditions. The company's expanding profit margins and investments in digital automation build compounding value over a multi-year horizon. Three key takeaways from management's comments highlight where the business is heading.
Core volume growth in small-container commercial accounts and large-container industrial accounts indicates underlying economic strength and high customer retention, exceeding 94%. Higher service levels across existing routes increase route density, boosting long-term profitability despite minor initial yield dilution.
Importantly, volume in both small and large container businesses increased 50 basis points. This marks the first time in more than three years that both businesses generated positive volume growth at the same time.

The Environmental Solutions segment, which manages specialized hazardous waste and industrial decontamination, provides high-margin growth that diversifies core solid waste collection. Operating leverage across treatment facilities helped increase adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) in this segment.
Adjusted EBITDA margin in the Environmental Solutions business was 25.4%, which represented 440 basis points of margin expansion compared to the prior year.

Deploying artificial intelligence (AI) across pricing and fleet dispatch allows Republic Services to tailor rate adjustments to customer retention data and reduce operational distance. Digital tools also streamline inbound customer service calls, supporting management's target of $100 million in incremental annual earnings by 2028.
AI-enabled pricing technology is now deployed across the business, providing enhanced insights to support pricing decisions that reflect service requirements and market conditions.

Positive momentum is building across both solid waste collection and specialty environmental operations. Management expects disciplined pricing and a recovery in volume trends to support its long-term financial formula.
As we look to the year ahead, we remain confident in our ability to execute in a dynamic market and are encouraged by the momentum building across the business.

High barriers to entry from permitted disposal assets and growing route density give the business structural cost advantages. Strategic focus remains on pricing discipline, fleet electrification, and earnings per share (EPS) expansion.
This calls for consistently delivering mid-single-digit revenue growth while growing EBITDA, EPS and free cash flow even faster than revenue.
