We learned from the 2026 Global Panda Partners Conference held in Chengdu, Sichuan, that up to now, there are 830 giant panda captive populations in China, and the genetic diversity of the population continues to increase. In recent years, through the construction of ecological corridors, 13 local giant panda populations have returned to large families, and habitat connectivity has improved markedly. More than 150 giant panda and other species activities have been monitored in the corridor area, and “blind dates” for giant pandas have become the norm. The giant panda is a flagship species endemic to our country, and it is also a star species for biodiversity conservation in the world. According to statistics, the total number of visitors to see giant pandas worldwide has exceeded 1 billion.
