The Zhitong Finance App learned that on November 2, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's first “tokenized gold x tokenized deposit” interbank transaction was completed. The transaction had Zhaojin Mining as the gold issuer, China Construction Bank (Asia) as the gold custodian and payment bank, the Bank of East Asia and UnionPay Tongbao as the payee bank, and provided technical support from Anvita TaaS, a tokenization platform independently developed by Ant Mathematical. Using the Hong Kong Gold Benchmark Price (HAU) as a reference, the tokenized issuance and ownership transfer of London Qualified Delivery (LGD) standard gold bars was completed.
The core innovation of this transaction is the introduction of on-chain digital certificates (gTokens) for physical gold without changing the existing bank gold account system and property rights transfer path, and synchronously uploading gold ownership transfer records to the chain. All parties to the transaction can verify the key information and holding status of gold based on the same on-chain record, making physical gold transactions traceable and auditable, and providing a trustworthy data foundation for the digital circulation of physical gold.
At the same time, the settlement of funds in transactions is routed through tokenized deposits (TD) through the Ensemble project interconnection layer to the Hong Kong Dollar Instant Payment and Settlement System (RTGS), enabling instant payment of interbank funds, providing a more efficient, transparent and traceable settlement model for large inter-agency gold transactions.
Anvita TaaS, the tokenization platform provided by Ant Math for this transaction, is based on its self-developed Layer 2 blockchain platform Jovay. In addition to core capabilities such as an institutional-level whitelist mechanism, on-chain and off-chain data synchronization, and a security compliance framework, the platform was initially designed to consider compatibility with the Hong Kong Precious Metals Central Clearing System (HKPMCC) clearing system to ensure that tokenized gold assets can be seamlessly connected to Hong Kong's central clearing infrastructure when needed. In addition, the platform uses a modular design and can be expanded in the future to support advanced use cases such as multiple escrow banks, multiple asset classes, and multiple clearing networks, reserving technical space for the large-scale development of the Hong Kong tokenized market.
