Hang Seng Index and Cyberport join hands to promote index design solutions using generative artificial intelligence

Zhitong Finance App learned that on November 2, Hang Seng Index and Cyberport announced at Hong Kong Fintech Week 2026 that they will work together to promote a one-stop index design plan based on the “Thematic Index Exploration Plan”, use generative artificial intelligence to improve the efficiency of thematic index development, and respond more quickly to market demand for themed investment products. The thematic investment sector has attracted market attention in recent years. In order to improve the efficiency of thematic index development, Hang Seng Index and Cyberport officially launched the “Thematic Index Exploration Program” in the second phase of the “Index Innovation Lab” project in June this year.

After three months of corporate recruitment and communication with the I&T community, Hang Seng Index collaborated with Cyberport and its community member INF Infinite Lightyear to successfully develop an index design solution using generative artificial intelligence for use in Hang Seng Index's themed index development process. This solution is also the first financial application case where the Cyberport Artificial Intelligence Supercomputing Center provides computing power support and is actually adopted by financial institutions.

This one-stop solution covers the entire index design process, including analyzing the background and themes of listed companies, screening constituent stocks, and recommending weight allocation. The solution is expected to increase the processing efficiency of identifying listed companies and related data by up to 5 times, while ensuring that the index operation process is consistent and relevant data can be traced.

Li Wenlong, chairman of Hang Seng Index Company, said that Hang Seng Index Company, Cyberport and community members have successfully developed an index design scheme using generative artificial intelligence, which will help further improve the efficiency of thematic index development and respond more flexibly to market needs. We will continue to work closely with our long-term partners Cyberport and the I&T community to jointly develop and launch innovation index solutions. We will also actively explore and work with product publishers to develop products linked to related thematic indices, support the market application of thematic indices, and help the long-term development of Hong Kong's finance and innovation technology.

Hang Seng Index and Cyberport community member INF Infinity Lightyear are collaborating to develop a generative AI index design scheme, fully demonstrating that local innovation and technology companies make good use of the computing power support of the Cyberport AI Supercomputing Center to develop innovative solutions that meet enterprise-level requirements. Cyberport will continue to promote collaboration between financial institutions and I&T companies, promote the application of more artificial intelligence technology in financial services and different industries, and further strengthen Hong Kong's position as an international financial center and innovation center.
