Alnylam Pharmaceuticals walked into this Q3 2026 report with the stock already under pressure, down roughly 33% over the past month and another 5% today to about US$165. The headline result was anything but soft. Reported net income for the quarter jumped to US$2.17b, driven largely by a very large non cash tax benefit that turned an already profitable rare disease specialist into a statistical outlier.
Short term traders saw red on the screen, while long term holders are likely focused on what this kind of earnings mix and a P/E near 8x might mean for the next several years of RNA interference driven growth, risk and valuation.

The bullish pitch rests on RNAi breadth turning into multiple commercial pillars beyond TTR. That ambition is spelled out clearly.
"The broad RNAi portfolio at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, with more than 25 programs across rare, specialty and prevalent conditions and multiple pivotal studies underway, creates repeated opportunities for new approvals that could add incremental revenue streams and help spread fixed R&D and SG&A over a larger sales base, which may support earnings."
Q3 shows both progress and friction. Strong TTR product revenue and growing Huntington’s and hypertension programs support the multi asset goal, yet R&D and SG&A rose faster than non GAAP operating income, so the margin benefit is not visible yet.
Bears worry that high costs and TTR reliance could choke the Alnylam Pharmaceuticals story if newer programs underperform.
"Sustained high levels of R&D and SG&A spending to support pipeline development and expand commercial operations, including large cardiovascular outcomes trials and new AI or manufacturing investments, could exceed top line growth if new RNAi programs in hypertension and other prevalent diseases do not achieve commercial success."
That concern finds support in this quarter. TTR contributed the vast majority of product revenue, non GAAP operating income fell 11% even with strong sales, and management now guides TTR toward the low end of the 2026 range while keeping spending elevated.
