General Mills' Quarterly Earnings Preview: What You Need to Know

Minneapolis, Minnesota-based General Mills, Inc. (GIS) is a global manufacturer and marketer of branded consumer foods sold through retail stores. The company has a market capitalization of $17.7 billion and operates through North America Retail, International, North America Pet, and North America Foodservice segments.  

GIS is expected to release its Q2 2027 earnings soon. Ahead of the event, analysts expect the company’s EPS to be $0.96 on a diluted basis, down 12.7% from $1.10 in the year-ago quarter. The company has exceeded Wall Street’s EPS estimates in three of its last four quarters, while missing on one occasion. 

For fiscal 2027, analysts project EPS of $3.08, down 13.2% from $3.55 in fiscal 2026. However, its EPS is expected to grow by roughly 3.6% year over year (YoY) to $3.19 in fiscal 2028. 

GIS stock has declined 28.5% over the past 52 weeks, underperforming the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 12% rise and the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLP) 15.2% rise during the same time frame.

GIS has not been lucrative to investors recently due to its poor fundamentals. The company has seen declining unit sales over the past two years and a projected sales decline over the next 12 months, indicating deteriorating demand for its products. Moreover, the company’s operating profits have also fallen over the past year, as its sales fell and it struggled to adjust its fixed costs. 

Analysts are skeptical about GIS, with the stock having a “Hold” rating overall. Among the 19 analysts covering the stock, two are recommending a “Strong Buy,” one recommends a “Moderate Buy,” 12 recommend a “Hold,” and four suggest a “Strong Sell.” GIS’ average analyst price target is $36.29, indicating an upside of 8.9% from the current level.
