On the morning of October 30, China Southern Airlines flight CZ3599 completed sustainable aviation fuel filling and took off at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. This was the first SAF flight departing from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, achieving a “zero breakthrough” for Guangzhou SAF flights. It was also the first time in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area that used the C919 to fly SAF flights. SAF is produced from sustainable raw materials such as waste oil, agricultural and forestry waste, energy crops, industrial exhaust, green hydrogen, and carbon dioxide capture through a clean process. The physico-chemical properties are comparable to traditional petroleum-based aviation kerosene. After airworthiness certification, it can be mixed and used in a limited ratio without modification to aircraft, engines, and ground refueling facilities.
