Vanda Pharmaceuticals entered this Q3 2026 report out of favour, with the share price down about 20% over the past three months and trading on a low 1.1x price-to-sales multiple. The headline today is clear: revenue for the quarter came in at US$69.8m while the business still posted a net loss of US$22.6m.
The stock barely moved on the day, rising just 1.3%. That muted reaction contrasts with the improvement in quarterly revenue and the smaller loss, suggesting investors are still focused on cash runway concerns rather than the shift in operating performance.

Bullish analysts argue that Vanda Pharmaceuticals can build a sturdier revenue mix around psychiatry and rare-disease launches.
"Bullish analysts expect Vanda Pharmaceuticals to use growing Fanapt prescriptions, the planned BYSANTI launch, and new products like NEREUS to offset HETLIOZ erosion and build a broader CNS and rare-disease revenue base."
The latest quarter gives that view some traction. Fanapt prescriptions and sales are rising, NEREUS already contributes US$1.6m and showed more than 100% TRx growth, and BYSANTI is approved with launch slated for Q4 2026. At the same time, HETLIOZ still contributes US$21.7m, so diversification is progressing but not yet fully tested against deeper erosion.

The cautious view says Vanda Pharmaceuticals is stuck spending heavily while its newer products fail to carry enough weight.
"While management guides to operating expense moderation beginning by late 2026 and more materially in 2027, reported operating expenses of US$367.3 million in 2025 and US$216.3 million in the first half of 2026, combined with an expectation that 2026 cash burn will exceed 2025, point to the possibility that spending remains elevated for longer."
Q3 brings a mixed scorecard. Operating expenses fell 18% sequentially, which directly challenges the idea that spending cannot bend down. Yet net loss for the first nine months of 2026 widened to US$133.6m, and management still expects 2026 cash burn to exceed 2025. The cost curve is finally pointing in the right direction, but the cash drain that underpins the bearish argument has not cleared.
Vanda Pharmaceuticals reported changes in revenue and costs, yet the share price showed little immediate reaction. The real opportunity could be researching stocks that appear undervalued before any valuation gap potentially narrows.
