KONE (HLSE:KNEBV) Q3 Earnings Clash With A Rich Valuation

Simply Wall St·10/28/2026 23:22:49
Listen to the news

KONE entered Q3 2026 earnings with its stock at €54.68 and a 90 day gain of about 10.7%, priced as a premium compounder in elevators and escalators rather than a cyclical industrial. The fresh numbers show why. Quarterly basic earnings per share printed at €0.52 and net income reached €268.3m, pointing to profit resilience as the clearest story in the release. That profit focus collides with a market already paying roughly 30x earnings, so any wobble in margins or in the TKE deal narrative now hits sentiment faster than the lifts KONE delivers.

Love KONE Oyj's earnings resilience but wary of paying roughly 30x P/E for it? Compare that profile against our 195 high quality undervalued stocks to see businesses that pair quality with more modest valuations.

KONE earnings mix edges closer to service thesis

The bullish view hinges on KONE using services, modernization and a larger installed base to steadily lift earnings power.

"The main thing that has to go right is for KONE Oyj to continue shifting its mix toward service and modernization, while integrating the planned TK Elevator combination in a way that preserves cash generation and delivers the targeted cost savings."

Q3 moves in that direction. Service sales grew 5.9% and modernization 8.1% on comparable FX, with modernization orders up about 10%. Adjusted EBIT margin expanded 40 bps year on year, and China now accounts for less than 10% of adjusted EBIT. This reduces reliance on a weaker segment. Management also reports TKE integration planning, synergy roadmaps and regulatory approvals tracking to plan, which supports but does not yet prove the full synergy ambition.

That disagreement has a full argument behind it. → Uncover the higher Fair Value this Narrative argues for.

KONE Bears Focus On China And Synergy Slippage

Critics argue KONE remains one bad execution patch away from weaker earnings quality.

"Even though the planned combination with TK Elevator is presented with sizeable cost and financing synergy targets and would create a large service base, the deal size of €29.4b together with one off integration and transaction costs of 1.0 to 1.2 times the synergy amount over two years leaves material execution and integration risk that could dilute near term EBIT margins and cash flow instead of lifting them."

The latest quarter does not settle that worry. Q3 adjusted EBIT margin expanded 40 bps and China now contributes less than 10% of adjusted EBIT, yet the TKE deal is still pre close and carries expected one off charges of about €40m in Q4, so none of the planned €700m synergies or €200m financing savings are visible in actual earnings or cash flow.

Hunt Quiet Disconnections In Quality

KONE Oyj just showed how a resilient earnings story can still sit against a demanding P/E multiple. The real opportunity sits with stocks that could be undervalued before expectations and pricing line up for patient investors.

  • Company 1 - 44% below our estimate - turns mortgage, housing and insurance platforms into profitable transaction hubs while keeping investment spending disciplined.
  • Company 2 - 39% below our estimate - refocuses talent and marketing on core regional fans and phases project spending around content and merchandise launches.
  • Company 3 - 26% below our estimate - builds clinically supported adult health probiotics while expanding direct distribution and in-house production capacity.
