Etsy walked into Q3 2026 earnings with momentum already in the share price. The stock was up 33.9% over the past month and then jumped another 5.4% on the day of the release to US$92.35. That move looks like a verdict on one thing above all else: the marketplace squeezed more out of every transaction.
Gross merchandise sales reached US$2.6b while revenue hit US$692 million, and the take rate climbed to 26.2%. Adjusted EBITDA of US$210 million on a 30.4% margin gave investors a cleaner story. The market cheered the margin muscle more than any headline growth rate.

Etsy says product tweaks and AI lifted GMS again this quarter. Ask Charlie which Etsy AI moves really boosted growth.
The bullish case hangs on Etsy squeezing more value from each visit, not just adding users.
"Bullish analysts expect Etsy to use AI-driven personalization and a growing mobile app channel to continue lifting marketplace engagement and monetization beyond what is already reflected in recent GMS, take rate, and margin figures."
Q3 puts real markers on that ambition. Active buyers finally ticked up to about 88 million, GMS per active buyer rose 3.9% and marketplace GMS grew faster than revenue. That, together with a higher 26.2% take rate tied to Etsy Ads performance, suggests personalization and app usage are already feeding into richer engagement and monetization, not just theory on a slide.

The bearish story says Etsy’s AI push and refocused marketplace fail to overcome weakening seller sentiment and rising agent influence.
"Even as Etsy reorients product and engineering toward faster AI led execution and app centric engagement, organizational changes may not address growing seller dissatisfaction with AI content moderation and marketplace integrity, which could limit the benefit of higher conversion on the buyer side and pressure net margins through higher support and trust and safety costs."
Q3 sends a mixed signal. Active buyers finally grew and GMS per buyer rose 3.9%, which challenges fears of immediate buyer side damage. At the same time, management’s need to tighten AI listing rules and invest in enforcement tools shows marketplace quality risk is real rather than theoretical. Net income and a 30.4% adjusted EBITDA margin do not yet show margin pressure from trust and safety costs, so this report does not confirm that part of the concern. The risk sits more in future execution than in this quarter’s P&L.
Etsy just showed what tighter monetization and cleaner margins can look like when a marketplace story clicks for a quarter. The real opportunity sits in finding stocks that could be undervalued before the fundamentals get fully noticed.
