UK Commits GBP700 Million AI Investment Package

10:51 AM EDT, 10/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The UK government committed to a 700 million-pound-sterling investment package for artificial intelligence, Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey said Wednesday in his first budget statement. The package includes an additional 120 million pounds for the AI Security Institute and 40 million pounds for a first-of-its-kind national capability to investigate and respond to agentic security incidents. It also provides 140 million pounds for the Sovereign AI Unit to support "promising" local AI companies and 30 million pounds to pilot local partnerships. The investment is intended to address the risks of AI while using its potential, as well as to bolster national security.
