Springdale, Arkansas-based Tyson Foods, Inc. (TSN) is a multinational food company and one of the world’s largest producers of protein, specializing in beef, pork, chicken, and prepared foods. Valued at $19.8 billion by market cap, its portfolio includes well-known brands such as Tyson, Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farm, Ball Park, and Aidells. The global protein leader is expected to announce its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings for 2026 before the market opens on Monday, Nov. 16.
Ahead of the event, analysts expect TSN to report a profit of $0.65 per share on a diluted basis, down 43.5% from $1.15 per share in the year-ago quarter. The company beat the consensus estimates in two of the last four quarters while missing the forecast on two other occasions.
For the current year, analysts expect TSN to report EPS of $3.49, down 15.3% from $4.12 in fiscal 2025. However, its EPS is expected to rise 6.9% year over year to $3.73 in fiscal 2027.
TSN stock has underperformed the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 12.3% gains over the past 52 weeks, with shares up 7% during this period. Moreover, it has also trailed the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF’s (XLP) 10% returns over the same time frame.
Tyson Foods has lagged the broader market over the past year amid stagnant unit sales, slowing demand, and persistent margin pressure. Flat sales projections suggest limited near-term growth, while its 6.9% gross margin trails competitors, constraining its ability to reinvest in marketing and production improvements.
Moreover, Tyson Foods cut its fiscal 2026 revenue-growth forecast to 1.5%-2.0% from 2.5%-3.5%, citing persistent weakness in its beef business, where projected operating losses widened to as much as $775 million. The repeated guidance reductions, following a $1 billion debt offering in August, have raised investor concerns and prompted a law firm to investigate potential securities disclosure violations.
Analysts’ consensus opinion on TSN stock is reasonably bullish, with a “Moderate Buy” rating overall. Of the 11 analysts covering the stock, five rate it a “Strong Buy,” five a “Hold,” and one a “Strong Sell.” TSN’s average analyst price target is $60.90, indicating a potential upside of 9.2% from the current levels.
