Finnair Oyj just posted its Q3 2026 scorecard and the headline is simple: profit is holding up while the share price mood stays sour. The stock closed at €4.17 on 27 October, capping a 7‑day slide of about 3.6% and a 3‑month drop of roughly 12.5%.
Inside the release, comparable operating profit of €84m and revenue of €973.4m tell a calmer story than the chart. The market is trading the fear that good news will not last, and the numbers point to investors reassessing sentiment more than fundamentals today.

The bullish view hinges on Finnair turning fleet growth and hub strength into steady, profitable expansion rather than chasing volume for its own sake.
"Planned fleet expansion with secondhand Airbus A320 aircraft, new Embraer E2 orders and one additional A350 supports the communicated 4% annual growth ambition. This can increase available capacity and help scale revenue while spreading fixed costs to support net margins."
Q3 results support that ambition being on track. Revenue rose 14.2% while capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers, was slightly lower year on year. That points to pricing and mix doing the heavy lifting, not just extra seats, which is aligned with a margin focused growth plan.

The darker take on Finnair argues that fuel and fleet bets could swamp today’s profitability.
"The long sector lengths caused by closed Russian airspace mean fuel remains a structurally large cost item. As existing fuel hedges roll off at declining hedge ratios, any sustained fuel price pressure could materially squeeze CASK, EBIT margin and cash flow."
Q3 results show this risk starting to bite at the edges. Management called out higher effective jet fuel costs and fresh EU ETS and SAF charges adding roughly €10m per quarter. Fuel hedging for 2027 sits at only 34%, so the protection visible in 2026 cash flow is not yet locked for later years.
Finnair Oyj illustrates how profit resilience and share price caution can coexist for a long time. The real opportunity is finding stocks that could be undervalued before the market corrects them.
