Lincoln Electric stock climbed 9.2% to US$282.37 after posting its Q3 2026 earnings, a punchy move for a mature industrial. Traders reacted to record adjusted earnings per share of US$2.98 and a 15% increase in sales to US$1.22b, supported by strong welding equipment and automation demand. In the short term, the reaction appears euphoric. Over a longer horizon, the more important story is the valuation gap that still exists against a higher discounted cash flow estimate, and what that could mean if Lincoln Electric maintains its current earnings quality and cash generation.

Automation just hit double-digit margins and is guiding growth into 2027. Ask Charlie what makes Lincoln Electric’s automation growth different this time.
The upbeat story hangs on automation growth and RISE lifting profitability, not just one strong quarter.
"The main factor that has to go right is continued execution on automation growth and the RISE efficiency program so that international and automation margins move toward the stated long term targets."
Lincoln Electric is moving in that direction. Automation helped push Q3 volume up about 9%, with Americas Welding margin at 20.1% and management pointing to a similar or slightly higher range in Q4. Incremental operating margin of 22% and guidance for mid 20% in Q4 echo the RISE ambition for high 20s by 2030, though not there yet.
On the risk side, the concern is that pricing and weaker end markets quietly erode the margin story.
"Lincoln Electric Holdings still relies on price actions to offset input cost inflation, and recent pressure in logistics, energy and components has already reduced expected incremental margins into the low 20% range."
That pressure is visible. Gross margin compressed 190 bps to 34.8% even with roughly 6% price, and incremental margin sat at 22%, already the “low 20%” zone flagged. International Welding margin was 10.3% with conflict-related sales disruption of about US$5m, and management expects another US$6m to US$7m impact in Q4, so regional profitability still trails the uplift narrative.
