TP Nykoriak calls for presidential roundtable with Ukrainian and Polish American leaders, raises concerns over Russian aggression, and questions Republican Party strategy in Detroit.
DETROIT, Oct. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- TP Nykoriak, the Republican nominee for Michigan's 13th Congressional District, announced that he delivered a letter addressed to President Donald J. Trump to members of the President's staff, calling for renewed presidential engagement with Detroit's Ukrainian and Polish American communities and raising broader questions about Republican political leadership in Michigan.

The letter, accompanied by an open letter from former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, urges President Trump to return to Detroit for a roundtable discussion with business leaders, community representatives, refugees, and Ukrainian and Polish Americans concerned about the continuing war in Ukraine and the possibility of further Russian aggression. "See below for Don't be a tough guy."
Nykoriak also raised questions about the apparent absence of presidential recognition of Nykoriak's congressional candidacy during Trump's October 25 appearance in St. Clair County, to which Nykoriak was invited but not recognized or endorsed.
"I am the Republican nominee for the United States Congress in Michigan's 13th Congressional District, yet I have received no endorsement from President Trump. When the President appeared in St. Clair County, I was not even publicly recognized. That raises a legitimate question: Does the Republican Party intend to support its own nominee in Detroit, or has Detroit simply been written off?" Nykoriak stated. Nykoriak continued; If TRUMP does not come back to Michigan and spend time in and with Detroit before the Election, Republicans will sure lose this Election because of sidelining Detroit.
Nykoriak went further, questioning whether the lack of recognition reflects a broader political calculation. Does President TRUMP Endorse the DSA Candidate ?
"Should I interpret this silence as an indication that President Trump would rather see my Democratic opponent, Donavan McKinney, who has received support from the Democratic Socialists of America, prevail in November? I certainly hope not. This is a DSA aligned socialist who is supported by Abdul/Mohamed AL-SAYED. But when the Republican nominee in Detroit is overlooked, the question deserves to be asked."
NYKORIAK: MIKE ROGERS CANNOT AFFORD TO IGNORE DETROIT
Nykoriak also challenged Michigan Republican leaders to recognize the importance of Detroit and its surrounding communities in the statewide contest between Republican U.S. Senate nominee Mike Rogers and Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
"Without meaningful Republican engagement and support from voters in Detroit and Michigan's 13th Congressional District, Mike Rogers faces an even more difficult path to victory. You cannot expect to win Michigan while treating Detroit as politically irrelevant."
Nykoriak emphasized that the 13th Congressional District includes portions of Detroit and neighboring communities whose voters also participate in statewide elections, And without all of Detroit voting for Nykoriak/Rogers, neither will win.
"The Republican Party cannot demand votes from Detroit while refusing to recognize the Republican candidate who is actually running for Congress there. If Mike Rogers intends to win Michigan, Detroit cannot be an afterthought. Every vote matters, and every community deserves to be heard."
LETTER TO PRESIDENT TRUMP ADDRESSES UKRAINE, PRESIDENT REAGAN, AND THE THREAT OF AUTHORITARIANISM
In his letter, Nykoriak recalled a personal family experience involving President Ronald Reagan.
In 1982, Nykoriak's father wrote to President Reagan concerning a pension matter and received a personal response. Nykoriak described the correspondence as a lasting example of presidential accessibility and accountability to ordinary American citizens.
The letter also describes the humanitarian crisis facing Ukraine and includes a passage attributed to former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko concerning Ukraine's centuries-long struggle to preserve its national identity.
Nykoriak warned that many Ukrainian and Polish Americans remain deeply concerned that putin could attempt to expand Russian aggression beyond Ukraine and potentially threaten Poland or other NATO territory.
"The people of Detroit understand what freedom means. Many Ukrainian and Polish American families know firsthand what communist repression, Soviet occupation, and authoritarian government have meant for their parents, grandparents, and ancestral homelands. Their voices belong in any serious discussion about America's policy toward Ukraine."
INVITATION TO PRESIDENT TRUMP:
RETURN TO DETROIT AND LISTEN
Nykoriak stated that he has already identified participants for a proposed presidential roundtable involving Ukrainian and Polish American community members, business representatives, and refugees.
The proposed meeting would focus on the genocide and humanitarian consequences of Russia's invasion, regional security, the protection of NATO allies, and potential pathways toward a durable peace.
"Mr. President, come to Detroit. Sit down with the people who have lived through this war, whose relatives remain in Ukraine, and whose families understand the consequences of Russian expansionism. I have already organized individuals prepared to participate in such a discussion. Their experiences and perspectives deserve to be heard."
Nykoriak added that presidential engagement should transcend political party lines.
"President Reagan understood the importance of responding to ordinary Americans. President Trump has an opportunity to demonstrate that same commitment by listening directly to Detroiters whose concerns are not always represented in Washington."
A MESSAGE TO DETROIT AND WASHINGTON
Nykoriak concluded by emphasizing that his congressional candidacy, the future of Detroit, and American foreign policy all raise questions about representation and accountability.
"Whether we are talking about a political socialist candidate in Detroit or a communist dictator in Moscow, intimidation and political arrogance should never substitute for leadership. As I stated in my letter to President Trump, the message remains simple: 'Don't be a tough guy!'"
"I am running to represent Detroit and the entire 13th Congressional District. I will not remain silent when the Detroit or Ukrainian community is ignored, whether by Democrats, Republicans, or officials in Washington or Kyiv. Detroit and Ukraine deserves a voice, and I intend to make certain that voice is heard.
WE MUST MAKE DETROIT GREAT AGAIN & STAND WITH UKRAINE".
