01:32 AM EDT, 10/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- German energy technology group Siemens Energy (ENR.F) is collaborating with Japan's Kyoto Fusioneering and Mitsui & Co. to develop technology that converts heat from fusion reactors into electricity, Nikkei Asia reported Tuesday. Kyoto Fusioneering will also work with Proxima Fusion on fuel-cycle technology and gyrotrons that generate ultrahigh temperatures in reactors, the report said. The companies aim to establish a commercial plant in Germany within the next decade, with Siemens Energy providing turbine technology that uses supercritical carbon dioxide instead of steam. The agreements are expected to be finalized during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit to Japan starting Wednesday. Siemens Energy, Kyoto Fusioneering, and Mitsui & Co. did not immediately respond to MT Newswire's requests for comment.
