Corbion spent this period rolling out next generation lactic acid solutions for clean label foods, supported by new fermentation capacity and technology upgrades that were in focus long before the latest headlines. For Corbion shareholders, the return over the past year was 54.1%, including dividends. If you had been deciding on 26 October 2025, what would you have needed to believe about those Thai and Chinese ramps before any of that outcome showed up on your broker screen?
The useful thing about a Narrative is that the reasoning is checkable: the assumptions sit beside the argument, and together they imply an estimated Fair Value you can disagree with.
The easy part of this move is behind Corbion. Zero in on 195 high quality undervalued stocks for companies trading below our estimates.
The shares cost €17.52 at the start of the period, and Corbion sat between two very different but plausible stories.
On the upbeat side, the bull Narrative put Fair Value at €22.84, 30% above the start price, and leaned on a smooth ramp-up at the gypsum free Thai lactic acid plant alongside Chinese approvals to support efficiency and multi year growth.
The cautious view set Fair Value at €14, 20% below the start price, and focused on rising regulatory and feedstock costs that could compress margins and limit long term earnings quality.
Corbion’s Q2 2026 update, with organic sales of €337.4m and adjusted EBITDA of €51.0m plus a refined EBITDA margin outlook above 16%, leaned toward the upbeat case that argued new capacity and efficiency would matter. The tension came from H1 2026 figures, where revenue slipped from €645.6m to €631.1m and net income and net margin both fell.
The key lesson is simple. When a story hangs on efficiency and pricing power, track adjusted EBITDA margins and net margin side by side. That is how you test whether new plants and cost programs are doing more than just keeping reported sales moving.
Corbion now trades at €25.14, with this Narrative’s Fair Value sitting below that level. The gap comes from concern that contract terms, hedging choices and portfolio reshaping might not fully offset cost pressure on profitability.
To pay today’s price, you would need to believe contract structures, especially fixed price algae omega‑3 deals, allow margin goals to hold despite sulfuric acid and other input costs.
"The numbers imply the share price already reflects successful delivery of mid to high teen EBITDA margins, ongoing free cash flow around the current guided €85 to €90 million range and a smooth exit from non core PLA exposure, leaving limited room for error if these goals are not met."
