If you only glanced at Weibo’s headlines over the past year, the story sounded constructive. AI fueled ad tools, stronger video viewing, even fresh ESG credentials. For Weibo shareholders, the loss over the past year was 42.7%, including dividends. That gap between upbeat product news and a sharply lower share price raises a harder question. If you were weighing an investment back in October 2025, what warning signs were already on the table?
Weibo has already moved. See which of 29 high quality undervalued stocks still trade below our estimates.
The shares cost US$11.32 at the start of the period, and anyone looking at Weibo then had to decide which story felt more realistic.
On the upbeat side, one Narrative pointed to a Fair Value of US$11.96. This was a rough guide to what the stock might be worth if AI tools, interest-based feeds and 2.8% assumed annual revenue growth supported a 21.8% profit margin and a 9.6x future P/E.
The more cautious view put Fair Value at US$8.10. It focused on regulatory scrutiny in China and the risk that advertising budgets would keep shifting toward e-commerce, short-video and influencer platforms, which could pressure Weibo’s user growth and its main revenue stream.
Weibo later reported Q2 2026 revenue of US$453.8 million, above Q2 2025’s US$444.8 million, which gave some backing to the optimistic story that focused on steady top line. Net income told a different tale. Profit fell from US$125.7 million to US$67.4 million and net margin dropped from 28.3% to 14.8%, which leaned toward the cautious case on earnings power.
The real hinge here was profitability. When you see a thesis built on higher margins or a richer P/E, first check reported net income and net margin, then decide how much of that optimism you want to pay for.
Weibo trades at US$6.18 today, after a loss of 42.7% over the past year. The selected Narrative sees Fair Value above that level, based on how free cash flow, cash on hand and AI powered advertising could frame the risk and reward.
The argument leans on AI driven feeds, video and creator tools keeping users engaged enough that advertisers continue to pay for differentiated campaigns. A buyer today would be assuming these AI and video investments translate into durable cash generation relative to the current valuation.
"Weibo is still rolling out deeper AI and large language model integration into its recommendation engine, content feeds and intelligent search, and the reported move to multi-turn, multimodal AI search with over 80 million monthly users and growing dialogue-based usage can support higher engagement and search driven ad revenue."
