Borr Drilling's Rig Sinks Offshore Gabon

12:53 AM EDT, 10/26/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Borr Drilling's (BORR.OL) Prospector 5 rig sank offshore in Gabonon Oct. 24, leaving five people still missing. The drilling contractor said on Oct. 25 that the rig sank during jacking operations ahead of a planned drilling campaign for BW Energy (BWE.OL). It said the rig was carrying 115 people, adding that search and rescue operations are ongoing to look for the five individuals still unaccounted for. Independent oil and gas company BW Energy said in a separate release that production at the MaBoMo facility was shut down as a standard precaution. It reported no damage to the facility or equipment and no accidental discharge of harmful substances into the sea.
