What Soitec Holders Got Right Before A 158% Run

Listen to the news

If Soitec sat on your watchlist instead of in your portfolio, the past year may feel expensive. Holding Soitec over the past year would have returned 157.9%, including dividends. The question is what, if anything, could have tipped you off back on 23 October 2025. Were the early claims that AI and 5G wireless would open new markets for its substrates a reasonable business assumption to lean on before the numbers moved?

The move put Soitec in the middle of this trade. Scan 55 AI infrastructure stocks for other companies exposed to it.

The Argument You Would Have Been Weighing Up On Soitec

The shares cost €42.95 at the start of the period, and anyone looking at Soitec then had to decide which story about its future sounded more realistic.

The bullish narrative saw AI and 5G as potential growth engines, with a Fair Value of €51.28, the price implied if modest 1.1% revenue growth and a 10.4% profit margin assumption played out over three years.

The bearish view pointed to SOI commoditisation and geopolitical risk, with a Fair Value of €32, assuming margins drifted down to 7.9% and customer concentration kept revenue under pressure.

What The Results Changed For The Soitec Thesis

The clearest development for Soitec was the surge in Photonics SOI demand, with AI data center products doubling year on year and Q2 2027 revenue growth guidance lifted to about 50%. That supported the bull case on new end markets and wafer volumes. The reported results, however, pointed in a different direction. Revenue declined and net income moved to a loss, with net margin falling from 14.0% in H2 2025 to 42.9% negative in H2 2026. Taken together, the evidence was mixed.

A broader lesson is which claim to test first. When a bullish story relies on higher volumes and better profitability, it can be useful to track not only segment growth headlines but also the group net margin in each reporting period to see whether scale is translating into cash.

What Soitec's Price Already Assumes

Soitec now trades at €112 after a 157.9% gain over the past year. The selected Narrative places its Fair Value below that level, arguing that the market already prices in a smoother path than recent revenue volatility and margin pressure suggest.

That view hinges on underused fabs, RF-SOI weakness and tax changes. A buyer at today’s price is effectively assuming utilization, pricing and cash generation improve faster than the Narrative fears. How do those capacity and margin risks affect that bet?

"The current valuation implies investors are already paying for a successful mix shift toward high-growth AI-related platforms and improved margins, despite recent revenue falling 30%, gross margin dropping to 16.3%, and sizeable impairments in SmartSiC and unused capacity."

Where Soitec’s Demand Might Echo

Soitec’s story revolves around chips that feed AI and data traffic. One step away, a different supplier faces a related pressure point.

AI servers that use Soitec-based components still need somewhere to keep information ready. That points to large pools of fast working memory and dense long term storage.

Another semiconductor specialist focuses on those memory and storage layers. Its products help AI hardware handle training runs and constant inference workloads without stalling.

As AI models spread into cars, devices and factories, that need broadens. Watching how this memory provider manages contracts, capacity and pricing could shape how you read Soitec’s wider ecosystem.
