Bank OZK stock jumped 4.2% to US$48.09 in the first full session after its Q3 2026 report, a sharp move for a regional lender that had gone almost nowhere over the past month. Traders reacted to a clean headline print, with basic earnings per share at US$1.50 and net income of US$164.3 million, and little in the way of fresh credit stress.
In the short term, that price pop grabs attention. The bigger story sits in the tension between those profits and a valuation that still implies caution, with the shares trading on a single digit P/E and a dividend yield close to 4%.
Love the clean Bank OZK earnings print and near 4% dividend yield but uneasy about whether that low single digit P/E is a value opportunity or a value trap? Benchmark it against other potentially mispriced ideas in our 33 high quality undervalued stocks
The bullish story hangs on Bank OZK turning a construction heavy book into broader CIB and fee power.
"The ongoing plan to bring the RESG and Corporate & Institutional Banking loan books to roughly equal size around 2027 opens the door to a different balance sheet mix."
Q3 results show that shift is moving from talking point to scoreboard. CIB balances are growing fast enough that management now expects them to surpass RESG sometime in 2027, helped by diversified lines and over 20% quarter on quarter CIB deposit growth. Net interest margin at 4.24% also stayed robust while this transition progresses.

Bearish investors argue that Bank OZK’s capital returns lose appeal if heavy RESG repayments keep a lid on earnings progress.
"Although Bank OZK is building out Corporate & Institutional Banking with multiple lending verticals and fee services, the recent caution that 2026 net interest income may not match 2025 because average earning assets are held back by large, lumpy RESG paydowns points to a risk that balance sheet growth and revenue fall short of what high margins alone would suggest."
The Q3 print leans toward that concern. Net income, EPS and revenue all moved lower year on year while management narrowed 2026 loan growth to 3% to 5% and flagged near record RESG payoffs in early Q4. A 4.24% net interest margin and strong CIB deposit inflows help, but they have not yet offset the drag from shrinking RESG balances.
Bank OZK highlights how a solid margin profile can coincide with cautious market pricing. The real opportunity is identifying stocks that could be undervalued before market expectations adjust.
