Eli Lilly (LLY) shares printed an all-time high on Oct. 20 as investors continued to rotate out of artificial intelligence (AI) and into healthcare stocks. LLY now sits handily above its key moving averages (MAs), with an RSI in the early 70s signaling significant buying pressure.
Eli Lilly stock has been in a sharp uptrend in recent months, currently up about 50% versus its year-to-date (YTD) low in the final week of April.
Lilly’s trillion-dollar valuation rests largely on its ability to turn demand for diabetes and obesity treatments into expanding sales. Mounjaro and Zepbound remain central to that story: strong demand prompted management to lift its 2026 revenue outlook to about $86 billion in August.
Importantly, access is widening, too. Eligible Medicare patients can now obtain Zepbound and Lilly’s oral obesity treatment, Foundayo, through the GLP-1 Bridge program for a $50 monthly copay. That creates another avenue for patient growth.
Meanwhile, recent rotation away from AI stocks has added momentum, attracting investors seeking businesses with established products and visible growth opportunities. Lilly offers both, helping explain why buyers have pushed its shares into record territory.
Despite their year-to-date outperformance, Bank of America sees further upside in Eli Lilly shares heading into 2027.
Earlier this week, the investment firm maintained its “Buy” rating on the pharmaceutical behemoth and raised its price target to $1,397, indicating potential upside of roughly 8% from current levels.
Lilly has opportunities beyond obesity as well. Newly reported Phase 3 results support a potential pediatric ulcerative colitis expansion for Omvoh, with regulatory submissions planned for.
A 0.54% dividend yield makes LLY even more attractive for income-focused investors.
While not as bullish as BofA, other Wall Street firms also recommend buying LLY stock heading into the company’s quarterly earnings on Oct. 29.
According to Barchart, the consensus rating on Eli Lilly sits at “Strong Buy” as of this writing, with the mean price objective of about $1,359 signaling potential for significant further gains from current levels.
