• Super Micro Computer shares are showing limited movement. Where are SMCI shares going?
On Thursday, Super Micro appointed former Western Digital Corp. (NASDAQ:WDC) executive Mark Long as chief financial officer, effective immediately. He replaces David Weigand, who has served as CFO since early 2021.
Super Micro began its CFO search in December 2024 following an independent review of accounting practices, initiated after short-seller Hindenburg Research alleged accounting manipulation.
Separately, contractor Ting-Wei “Willy” Sun recently pleaded guilty to four counts, including conspiracy to violate U.S. export restrictions, regarding servers containing NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) artificial intelligence chips shipped to China.

From a trend standpoint, SMCI is still in repair mode: at $31.40, it’s trading 21.4% below the 20-day SMA ($39.84) and 19% below the 50-day SMA ($38.68), showing that the intermediate trend remains pointed down. It’s also 11% below the 100-day SMA ($35.17) and 3.6% below the 200-day SMA ($32.48), so even the longer-term baseline is still overhead.
Even with that, the moving-average structure isn’t all bearish — there’s still a Golden Cross in place (the 50-day SMA above the 200-day SMA), which happened in August and can act as a longer-term "supportive backdrop" if price can reclaim key levels. The problem right now is execution: price broke below support in August and has struggled to get back above the major averages since.
