According to Woofun AI, the overall performance of the shipping sector last week was significantly weaker than the general market, setting a weak tone. The Capital Link Maritime Index recorded a 6.80% decline, while the S&P 500 fell only 1.95% during the same period, NASDAQ fell 4.48%, and the Dow Jones index bucked the trend and rose 0.67%. The performance of shipping stocks lags 4.86 percentage points behind the S&P 500. Although the index's cumulative increase during the year still reached 73.80%, far exceeding 11.68% of the S&P 500, the total market value of the industry has shrunk by US$6.5 billion to US$89.5 billion.

The segment showed sharp differentiation, with hybrid vessels leading the decline while the tanker sector continued to lead the way. The hybrid ship index plummeted 12.01% in a single week, although the cumulative increase during the year was 68.28%; in contrast, although the tanker index fell 5.97%, the increase during the year was as high as 115.06%, making it the best performing sector. In terms of freight, the Clean Tanker Index (BITY) rose 5.62%, and the Dirty Tanker Index (BIDY) fell 5.12%. At the individual stock level, with the exception of Icon Energy (ICON.US), which surged 18.39%, the remaining 52 stocks lost across the board, including Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN.US) (-0.43%), United Maritime (USEA.US) (-0.79%), Capital Clean Energy Carriers (CCEC.US) (-1.07%), and Ardmore Shipping (ASC.US) (-1.82%) saw a relatively small decline.

There is a clear divergence between the dry bulk, container and energy freight indices and stock price trends. Dry bulk stocks fell 7.79%, and the Baltic Dry Bulk Index fell 13.92%. Among them, the oversized ship index plummeted 25.14%; the Panamanian ship index fell 4.54%, the Cape of Good Hope ship index rose 2.81%, and the small ship index rose 1.51%. In the container sector, although the FBX Global Container Index rose 6.46%, related stocks fell 5.50%. LNG/LPG stocks fell 6.09%, the BLNG index fell 9.37%, and the BLPG index fell 2.88%. On the energy side, Brent crude oil reported a weekly increase of 4.9% and an annual increase of 82.1%; diesel fell to $1,413 per metric ton, a weekly decrease of 4.7%, but an annual increase of 131.2%.

According to data compiled by Woofun AI, this divergence between freight rates and stock prices reflects the market's overreaction to short-term fluctuations in supply and demand.

There was a significant increase in market activity, with total trading volume reaching $7.2 billion this week, up 10.2% from $6.6 billion last week. The tanker sector contributed 71.43% of trading volume, amounting to US$5.2 billion, with a weekly increase of 11.6%. Frontline (FRO.US) led with $1.5 billion in transaction volume, followed by DHT (DHT.US) ($894 million) and Okeanis Eco Tankers (ECO.US) ($554.9 million). In terms of decline, Robin Energy (RBNE.US) fell 65.02%, C3iS (CISS.US) fell 31.94%, and EuroDry (EDRY.US) fell 22.17%.
