12:47 AM EDT, 10/19/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Switzerland, along with fellow European Free Trade Association countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, signed a free trade deal with Vietnam to strengthen economic ties and support a "rules-based trading system" amid current global economic volatility. The agreement covers trade in goods and services, intellectual property rights, investment, government procurement, support for small and medium-sized businesses, and sustainable trade practices, according to a Sunday release. Annual trade between Vietnam and EFTA member states averages $2 billion. Vietnam exports include textiles, footwear, electronics, seafood and machinery, while EFTA exports include machinery, industrial equipment, chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
