Markets enter a heavy earnings week with Meta Platforms (META), Tesla (TSLA), Netflix (NFLX) and Texas Instruments (TXN) reporting alongside Wednesday’s crude oil inventories. Semiconductor pressure and AI spending doubts remain front and center. Crude volatility and geopolitical risk continue to shape the inflation backdrop. Rising bond yields are keeping Fed expectations in focus. Friday’s flash PMI readings close out a week that could set the tone into late October.
Here are 5 things to watch this week in the Market.
Meta (META) reports Wednesday, and investors will focus on AI capital spending. The question is whether spending is translating into revenue growth. Texas Instruments (TXN) also reports Wednesday. Its results offer a read on analog chip demand. Lam Research (LRCX) reports the same day, giving insight into chip equipment orders. Strong results could steady the sector. Weak guidance would deepen concerns about AI returns. Semiconductor stocks have been volatile, and earnings will set the tone.
Wednesday’s crude oil inventories at 10:30am will show supply and demand trends. Oil prices remain sensitive to Middle East developments. Escalation risks could push prices higher quickly. Higher energy costs would feed inflation and complicate the Fed’s path. Valero (VLO) reports Thursday, offering a read on refining margins. Strong margins would signal healthy fuel demand. Exxon-linked energy names have been sensitive to every headline, so position sizing matters.
Bond yields continue to influence equity valuations. Higher yields compress multiples, especially for growth stocks. Investors are watching whether the Fed will hold or lean hawkish. Thursday’s jobless claims at 8:30am offer a weekly read on labor conditions. Stronger labor data would support the case for higher-for-longer rates. Weaker claims could ease pressure on yields. Bank earnings from earlier in the month have already shown mixed loan demand. Yield direction will likely drive sector rotation this week.
Netflix (NFLX) and General Motors (GM) report Tuesday. Netflix will show whether streaming demand holds up. GM will show auto demand and pricing. Procter & Gamble (PG) reports Thursday and offers a read on household spending. Lockheed Martin (LMT) and RTX (RTX) bring defence and geopolitical sensitivity into focus. Mixed consumer results would reinforce the stagflation debate.
Friday’s preliminary October Manufacturing and Services PMI readings at 9:45am will give the first look at October activity. Manufacturing data will show whether factories are expanding or contracting. Services data covers the largest part of the economy. Strong readings would ease recession worries. Weak readings would raise questions about the Fed’s next move. Investors will weigh these numbers against the week’s earnings and oil headlines before the next set of reports.
