UK Government Clears Axel Springer's Telegraph Media Group Acquisition

07:08 AM EDT, 10/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- UK Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Lisa Nandy will not refer Axel Springer's acquisition of Telegraph Media Group to an in-depth phase 2 investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority. Consequently, the public interest intervention notice issued in January 2024 and the public interest merger reference have ceased to be in force, marking an end to a prolonged period of uncertainty for the Telegraph newspaper and its staff, Nandy said Friday. The Telegraph takeover was completed in June.
