On Thursday, Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the Muse Spark AI model is now available as an open-weight model, highlighting its compatibility with Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) latest Mac Studio and crediting CEO John Ternus.

Meta Opens Up Muse Spark AI Model

"Muse Spark Open — weights releasing today — runs great on new Mac Studios thanks to work with John Ternus and Apple," Zuckerberg wrote in a post on X.

The release gives developers access to the model’s trained parameters, allowing them to download, adapt and run the technology on their own infrastructure rather than relying exclusively on Meta’s proprietary services.

Open-weight AI models can offer businesses greater flexibility, customization options and control over sensitive data. However, deploying them at scale can require substantial computing resources and technical expertise.

Muse Spark Packs 816 Billion Parameters

Meta said Muse Spark contains 816 billion total parameters, with 42 billion active at a time. The model also supports a context window of up to 1 million tokens, letting it process large amounts of information in a single interaction.

The company said developers can run Muse Spark locally using two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studio computers. The model is also accessible through select application programming interface providers.

Meta previously released Muse Glimmer, a smaller open-weight model, in August, extending its efforts to make AI technology accessible to developers.

Apple Faces Meta Muse AI Competition

The development comes as Meta’s Muse AI agent challenges Apple’s control over shopping, travel bookings and payments, despite strong iPhone sales, as it outpaces Siri in background tasks and third-party integrations.

Earlier this month, Apple reportedly planned a macOS update to alert users when AI agents access system data, following scrutiny of Meta Muse over alleged access to private messages.

In 2024, it was reported that Apple turned down Meta’s proposal to integrate its Llama AI chatbot into the iPhone.

Price Action: Meta closed at $736.72 on Thursday and slipped 0.45% to $733.39 in after-hours trading, according to Benzinga Pro.

According to Benzinga Edge Stock Rankings, Meta ranks in the 78th percentile for Momentum, with positive price trends across the short, medium and long term.
