Venezuela's Ministry of Information and Communications issued an announcement on the 13th saying that the Chinese government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Alitalia and plans to resume direct flights between the two capitals of the two countries next year. According to an announcement published on the website of the Ministry of Information and Communications of the Commission, it is planned to resume direct flights between Caracas, the capital of the Commission, and Rome, the capital of Italy, from March 30, 2027. The route operates three times a week and is expected to provide more than 90,000 seats every year. On the same day, Air Italy issued a statement confirming the above information, saying that the route will connect Rome's Fiumicino Airport to Simon Bolivar International Airport near Caracas. The statement said that this route will “strengthen connectivity between Italy and Venezuela, a key Latin American market, promote the development of economic and trade relations, and support the business activities of Italian companies operating in the Commission.” Alitalia was born from Alitalia, which was founded in 1946. The latter was repeatedly in financial crisis. In 2020, the Italian government approved the restructuring as Air Alitalia, and officially began operations under a new identity the following year. Alitalia suspended direct flights between Rome and Caracas in 2015 due to government debt issues.
