05:45 AM EDT, 10/12/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Union plans to impose a measure to cap imports of hybrid cars from China after the countries reached an "understanding" on hybrid vehicle trade, London's Financial Times reported Sunday, citing three people briefed on the agreement. Under the plan, the bloc will use a trade safeguard that lets China export a limited number of vehicles before steep new supplementary tariffs apply, as well as accept an agreed quota and not retaliate against EU imports, the sources said. The measure, subject to approval from member states, can also be applied without evidence of market abuse. The European Commission did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
