Listen to the news

Capcom (TSE:9697) has been added to the Nikkei 225 Index, a milestone that can reshape how large institutional investors and index funds treat the stock within Japan’s equity market.

Capcom’s inclusion in the Nikkei 225 comes on top of a strong run, with a 90-day share price return of 32.84% and a year-to-date move of 19.80% at a latest share price of ¥4,393. Longer term total shareholder returns of 69.18% over three years and 194.27% over five years indicate momentum that has been building for some time rather than emerging only around this index change.

The index promotion and recent share price jump have put fresh attention on one issue: Does Capcom’s current ¥4,393 level already reflect fair value, or does the spread against valuation estimates still leave meaningful upside or downside risk?

Most Popular Narrative: 2.2% Overvalued

Capcom’s most followed narrative pegs fair value at ¥4,300, slightly below the latest ¥4,393 close. This frames the stock as modestly ahead of that estimate while still anchored in detailed cash flow work.

The Valuator projects from trailing twelve-month revenue, and my TTM base has moved from roughly ¥196 billion to ¥220.3 billion, the Requiem quarter and the Pragmata quarter now both sit inside it. If I changed nothing at all, that base effect alone would produce a fair value near ¥4,600. I do not think I have learned ¥500 a share worth of new information, and I am not taking a 12% increase for free.

According to mart yw, the fair value move to ¥4,300 rests on an 11.1% annual revenue growth assumption, a 32.8% profit margin and a future earnings multiple of 20.48x applied to that earnings path. The same narrative flags that this margin level sits above Capcom’s reported 27.9% for the year to March 2026 and above the 27.6% implied by guidance. This puts extra weight on execution to sustain that profitability.

The author also points out that trailing revenue of ¥220.3b includes two strong launch quarters, while current full year guidance is lower. As a result, extrapolating aggressively from that peak would risk double counting the release cycle. At around ¥4,393, Capcom trades slightly above the ¥4,300 fair value used in that model. This turns what was previously described as a wide discount into a small premium that leaves less room for error if margins or growth come in below those assumptions.

Result: Fair Value of ¥4,300 (OVERVALUED)

Still, Capcom’s story can break if key franchises underperform against high expectations, or if currency swings materially drag on reported profit and valuation work.
