UK Court Declines Permission to Appeal in Carmakers' Diesel Emissions Case

07:50 AM EDT, 10/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- London's High Court refused to let claimants appeal against its ruling in a trial against carmakers including Renault (RNO.PA), Mercedes-Benz Group (MBG.F) and Stellantis (STLAM.MI, STLAP.PA) over diesel emissions, Reuters reported Thursday. Judge Sara Cockerill, who ruled broadly in favor of the carmakers in July, said the claimants would ⁠have to apply directly to the Court of Appeal, according to the report. Cockerill rejected most allegations that vehicles manufactured by Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Stellantis, Ford and Nissan were fitted with unlawful "defeat devices" that lifted emissions, in a trial related to 13 groups of lawsuits by 1.6 million claimants.
